						 <p>I am still not getting anywhere. I have gone through your instructions on setting up Visual Studio as well as installing the extra dependencies a dozen times ( really ) and nothing. Same problem Have you updated the source yet? Maybe the updated source will fix the problem or point me to where my problem is.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>Hi, I spent some time trying to figure out what's wrong with your working copy… and I think I finally found the reason. Look at <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/tut-1-1">this</a>, specifically at PhysX related paragraph.</p> <p>BTW if anyone knows if I could redistribute libs and includes of PhysX without violating its terms of use (I try not to by any means and as I'm not a lawyer I'm not sure if I understood all points correctly).</p> <p>Nonetheless there will be update soon.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>I manually searched after several compiles and still nothing. If a newer version has been committed let me know and I'll try getting it to compile with that one. I will also continue to work with what I have presently. I use Visual Studio as my compiler.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>Could you also manually search for a file with such a name on your disk? Maybe there's some problem with paths? If still no success, then it would mean nGENE Proj is not compiled/linked… but then why it throw no errors?</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>Let me know when you commit the updates. I'll see if the updates don't fix the problem. I tried everything (removing all temporary files etc.) and reviewed my setting several times but still the same error. No nGene.Lib in the release directory.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>That's weird… It seems for some reason nGENE.lib is not present where it should be. Can you check if after compiling nGENE Proj you have nGENE.lib file in bin/release directory. It'll help me in finding solution to your problem.</p> <p>Did you try cleaning up (removing all temporary files etc.) and then rebuilding whole project? Maybe VS went crazy with something and remembers something it shouldn't?</p> <p>BTW I removed the majority of warnings yesterday. Will commit today/tomorrow.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>These are warnings not errors and I'm aware of them (they'll be removed one day). The reason so many warnings appear is due to PhysX whith which nGENE is integrated and PhysX classes that are used internally throw the same warnings.</p> <p>// EDIT: But you're right these warnings shouldn't be present. I'll get rid of them ASAP.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-186108/ngene-lib">nGene.Lib</a>

						 <p>My earlier post wasn't exactly the right position. The error I get is coming from delayhlp.cpp (which is part of the VC library)</p> <p>So I guess it must be a problem with the delayed loading of the dll. Why are you loading those dll's delayed?<br /> I also don't really understand why it would act different on a x64 system…</p> <p>I'll try to find a way to fix this…</p> <p>*edit*</p> <p>Ok I recently found an older post with a similar problem: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-142637">http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-142637</a><br /> I followed the mentioned steps and it seems to work (replace lua51.lib with lua.x86.debug.lib (or lua.x86.release.lib) and delete delayed loading lua51.dll)</p> <p>I could send you my projectfiles If you want to add a special x64 configuration to the repository</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53513">User forums / Bugs and issues</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-185674/d3d10-dll-missing-starting-debug-samples">d3d10.dll missing starting debug samples</a>

						 <p>I tried your suggestions, but it didn't fix the problem.</p> <p>But I think I know where it crashes. So first, here is what I did to be able to debug the Samples:</p> <p>I removed all DX10 related files by setting some #ifdef around the DX10 using files.<br /> Then I removed the lib and dll files from the project settings. After building the lib, framework and samples in debug mode I finally was able to debug the sample without the disturbing d3d19.dll missing message.</p> <p>By stepping through the code I figured out there seems to be a problem with the lua system.<br /> It crashes here:</p> <div class="code"> <pre> <code> void ScriptSystemLua::init() { m_pLuaVM = lua_open(); // this call failes</code> </pre></div> <p>The Message is</p> <blockquote> <p>Unhandled exception at 0x7d4e237e in FurryBunny_VS_9.exe: 0xC06D007E: Module not found.</p> </blockquote> <p>Might it be a problem that the lua51.dll is loaded after a delay?</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53513">User forums / Bugs and issues</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-185674/d3d10-dll-missing-starting-debug-samples">d3d10.dll missing starting debug samples</a>

						 <p>Yet another update:</p> <ul> <li>Introduction of material techniques</li> <li>Lightning bolt effect</li> <li>Surfaces can now custom shadow material instead of default. Just add technique with the name "shadow" to the base surface material (see palm_bark or palm_leaf in default.lib for example)</li> </ul> <ul> <li>[fix] Vegetation shadows</li> <li>[fix] Fixed bug with display modes</li> <li>[fix] Bounding boxes of some objects were invalid</li> </ul> <ul> <li>[example] Lightning bolt</li> </ul> <p>The most important thing is the first point i.e. material techniques. Now material doesn't directly contain RenderPass objects but instead RenderTechnique's (similar to DX FXs or OGRE for instance). For now technique is just a simple object but I plan to use it for some materials LOD later on and yet it helped me to solve some problem with shadows casted by objects animated using vertex shaders (see palm_bark material for the example of custom shadowing routine).</p> <p>By default the first technique is set as active (i.e. one used in rendering) but you can change it using Material::setActiveRenderTechnqiue(RenderTechnique* _technique) or providing index.</p> <p>There are besides some fixes of course and addition of new example (lightning bolts) and new effect lightnings. You can see it in action below:</p> <p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QS0iq1x9k5k&amp;hl=pl&amp;fs=1&amp;" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QS0iq1x9k5k&amp;hl=pl&amp;fs=1&amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344" /></object></p> <p>and below:</p> <p><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EtNyQhSNC8k&amp;hl=pl&amp;fs=1&amp;" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EtNyQhSNC8k&amp;hl=pl&amp;fs=1&amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344" /></object></p> <p>There are still some tweaks to do but in general it is working ok. You can read about the algorithm <a href="http://wtomandev.blogspot.com/2009/09/storm-is-coming.html" >on my blog</a>.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-139615/ngene-updates">nGENE Updates</a>

						 <p>Hi!</p> <p>First check the newest version from the SVN (today commit). Maybe it'll help.</p> <p>Have you rebuilt the samples as well? Also ensure there is something like "d3dx10_41.dll;d3d10.dll;" in Linker -&gt; Input -&gt; Delay Loaded DLLs field for nGENE Proj project (don't think it should be in any other project too). If you're using DX SDK newer than that of March 2009 you should probably replace d3dx10_41.dll with its newer version (_42 I guess?). I build the code on Vista with DX10 support so the binaries might require this step.</p> <blockquote> <p>I also can't start the release samples because I get the following error on startup:</p> </blockquote> <p>It seems, it crashes on initializing renderer (it should be the next message). For some reason it probably tries to use DX10 renderer and load its dlls which of course can't be found I guess. I hope you choose default (DirectX 9) renderer?</p> <blockquote> <p>Since I can'T debug I am not able to solve this problem…</p> </blockquote> <p>Why? Do you get any specific errors?</p> <p>Let me know if it helps. If not we'll try to find a solution.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53513">User forums / Bugs and issues</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-185674/d3d10-dll-missing-starting-debug-samples">d3d10.dll missing starting debug samples</a>

						 <p>Yes it would be possible but is not viable for several reasons…there could be several approaches to try to implement an abstraction in nGene through the use of .dll's to interact with the C#/XNA code but it would give so much work that I don't think that anyone would be interested in doing so…( I worked/work with XNA and I don't think that it would benefit any side).</p> <p>Besides that, other problems arise, if you use some kind of the approaches that I or wtoman talked, you won't be able to run your code on the Xbox 360…which kind of misses the point that XNA brought, correct? ( same thing for Zune obviously)<br /> There are other several other reasons such as optimizations, coherence in the dll's, wrappers, etc etc, that would give a lot of work to keep in synch.</p> <p>The only thing that I see possible to be created is a total conversion of nGene to C# with XNA, which to be honest, if you read nGene code, would be "doable" as wtoman code is pretty clean and readable.</p> <p>Just my 2 cents :-)</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-185251/integration-with-xna">Integration with XNA</a>

						 <p>I'm not sure if this would be possible to be honest. I don't know XNA that good (only went through the samples some time ago). Probably if the default DX renderer was replaced with XNA's and some sort of C# wrapper was provided it would be possible… but as I said I'm not sure about this.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-185251/integration-with-xna">Integration with XNA</a>

						 <p>Not many updates in the last few days… but here is something what will reward this I hope. nGENE has now its own virtual file system what means that instead of many small files you can redistribute a few larger ones. This vfs supports compression (using Burrows-Wheeler Transform + Move to Front + Run-Length Encoding + Huffman Coding) and is almost transparent for the programmer. The only thing you have to do is to open the archive. Here is an example of loading data from the archive (see VFS example for full source code):</p> <div class="code"> <div class="hl-main"> <pre> <span class="hl-identifier">FileManager</span><span class="hl-code">&amp; </span><span class="hl-identifier">mgr</span><span class="hl-code"> = </span><span class="hl-identifier">FileManager</span><span class="hl-code">::</span><span class="hl-identifier">getSingleton</span><span class="hl-brackets">()</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">FileArchive</span><span class="hl-code">* </span><span class="hl-identifier">pArchive</span><span class="hl-code"> = </span><span class="hl-identifier">mgr</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">openArchive</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-identifier">L</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">Default</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-code">, </span><span class="hl-identifier">L</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">VFS.nfs</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-code">, </span><span class="hl-identifier">OPEN_READ</span><span class="hl-code"> | </span><span class="hl-identifier">OPEN_BINARY</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">mgr</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">changeDir</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">VFS.nfs</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">MaterialManager</span><span class="hl-code">::</span><span class="hl-identifier">getSingleton</span><span class="hl-brackets">()</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">createLibraryFromFile</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-identifier">L</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">vfs_demo.lib</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-code">, </span><span class="hl-identifier">L</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">default</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">mgr</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">closeFile</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-identifier">pArchive</span><span class="hl-code">-&gt;</span><span class="hl-identifier">getFileName</span><span class="hl-brackets">())</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-comment">// Restore previous directory</span><span class="hl-code"> </span><span class="hl-identifier">mgr</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">changeDir</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">.</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">;</span> </pre></div> </div> <p>To create archives I provided a command line tool named ArchiveBuilder.exe which has following usage:</p> <p><em>Usage: archivebuilder.exe &lt;directory name&gt; &lt;target archive name&gt; [-c OPTIONAL compression]</em></p> <p>Note that archivebuilder saves directory structure so you will have to them take into account when passing file names (as you would do without resource file).</p> <p>Another change is that some of the important materials have been moved to the new library (core.lib). The VFS example shows that now loading default.lib library is no more necessary.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-139615/ngene-updates">nGENE Updates</a>

Creation of joints is pretty easy and straightforward:</p> <div class="code"> <div class="hl-main"> <pre> <span class="hl-identifier">JOINT_DESC</span><span class="hl-code"> </span><span class="hl-identifier">desc</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">desc</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">actor1</span><span class="hl-code"> = </span><span class="hl-identifier">pActor</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">desc</span><span class="hl-code">.</span><span class="hl-identifier">actor2</span><span class="hl-code"> = </span><span class="hl-prepro">NULL</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">Joint</span><span class="hl-code">* </span><span class="hl-identifier">pJoint</span><span class="hl-code"> = </span><span class="hl-identifier">pWorld</span><span class="hl-code">-&gt;</span><span class="hl-identifier">createJoint</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-identifier">L</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-string">Hinge</span><span class="hl-quotes">"</span><span class="hl-code">, </span><span class="hl-identifier">desc</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">Vector3</span><span class="hl-code"> </span><span class="hl-identifier">vecPos</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-number">0.0</span><span class="hl-identifier">f</span><span class="hl-code">, </span><span class="hl-number">15.0</span><span class="hl-identifier">f</span><span class="hl-code">, </span><span class="hl-number">15.0</span><span class="hl-identifier">f</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">pJoint</span><span class="hl-code">-&gt;</span><span class="hl-identifier">setPosition</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-identifier">vecPos</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">; </span><span class="hl-identifier">pJoint</span><span class="hl-code">-&gt;</span><span class="hl-identifier">setDirection</span><span class="hl-brackets">(</span><span class="hl-identifier">Vector3</span><span class="hl-code">::</span><span class="hl-identifier">UNIT_Z</span><span class="hl-brackets">)</span><span class="hl-code">;</span> </pre></div> </div> <p>This snippet creates a "Hinge" joint provided pWorld is a pointer to a valid PhysicsWorld object and pActor is a pointer to a valid rigid body object. Other types of joints you can create are:</p> <ul> <li>"Cylinder"</li> <li>"Distance"</li> <li>"Fixed"</li> <li>"PointInPlane"</li> <li>"PointOnLine"</li> <li>"Prism"</li> <li>"Pulley"</li> <li>"Sphere"</li> </ul> <p>They should work the same way their counterparts in PhysX do. After creating Joint you may want to downcast the pointer to get access to specific class methods. Also for some joint classes you have to use their specific descriptor structure instead of JOINT_DESC when creating them. These classes are:</p> <ul> <li>JointDistance ("Distance")</li> <li>JointPulley ("Pulley")</li> <li>JointSphere ("Sphere")</li> </ul> <p>See source code for more details.</p> <p>More details will be provided by the end of the week with a new tutorial focusing on joints.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-139615/ngene-updates">nGENE Updates</a>

						 <p>Ok, if you checked it on the more complicated scenes, i will agree with you. Because i haven't seen it on the simplest scene :) 64 so 64 :)</p> <p>Hmm, my scene is very simple.. Most likely it is a stress test. And each cube can cast or receive shadow from many point lights. <p>64-bit buffers give much more precision ;) there were some artifacts when using 32 bit ones so I switched to 64-bit. I can make it switchable if you want it.</p> <p>One more thing about shadows performance. Could you save the scene you're making (the one with 10 cubes) with Framework::serialize(const wstring&amp; filename) method? The file will be in bin/media folder. Then you could send me it (to <span class="wiki-email">moc.liamg|wnamot#moc.liamg|wnamot</span>) and I would be able to profile it to track bottle-necks.</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-177669/direction-lights">Direction lights</a>

						 <p>OK, most of the bugs have been removed. Shadows work for all of the supported light types and look slightly better I think (there are some things to improve though). I also dropped shadows blurring as it caused just too many artifacts related to color bleeding. <p>OK, I admit - there were some serious bugs regarding nGENE shadows. So I spent a few hours on fixing them in the last few days. Here are the list of changes:</p> <ul> <li>shadows work correctly for all supported types of shadows now</li> <li>blurring of PCF shadows resulted in colour bleeding artifacts - blurring was dropped</li> <li>to make up for the lack of blurring possibility of changing shadow quality (by means of resolution was added) - just call Light::setShadowResolution(uint _value) to change resolution for the specified light object or uint Light::getShadowResolution() to retrieve it</li> <li>BUFFER_TYPE enum was renamed to CLEAR_BUFFER_TYPE and its members now have names beginning with CB_ instead of BUFFER_</li> <li>I also added some missing comments and got rid of spelling mistakes in other</li> </ul> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-139615/ngene-updates">nGENE Updates</a>

It worked some time ago because frustums were setting renderer's projection matrices on their own and now they don't :)</p> <br/>Forum category: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/c-53511">User forums / General discussions</a><br/>Forum thread: <a href="http://ngene.wikidot.com/forum/t-177669/direction-lights">Direction lights</a>
